Sri Gethuk Waterfall - The Hidden Wonderful Waterfall in Gunungkidul

Now, I am going to tell you about one of the greatest waterfall which is located in Gunungkidul area. It name is Sri Gethuk Waterfall.

Sri Gethuk Waterfall is located in Playen, Gunungkidul. It is about 30 km from Yogyakarta city or around one and a half hour. You can take public transportation from Yogyakarta city, after you arrive at Gading T-Junction, you can rent motorcycle or take ojek to go there. There are some directions which make us easier to go to the location. No matter you use bus, car or motorcycle, you don’t need to be worry since the road is good already. Along the way to Sri Gethuk waterfall, you will see the natural looks of the village.

Access and Ticketting Price

Along the road near by the location, you can see the beautiful scenery on our left and right side. There are rice-fields, kayu putih garden and the villager’s traditional homes which are very wonderful. Before entering to Sri Gethuk Waterfall, you should buy the entrance-ticket. There are two types of ticket. The first one is packed-ticket and the second one is un-packed ticket. Packed ticket costs IDR 35.000, which includes entrance fee, fee to take the wooden-boat to the waterfall, float, tour guide and accident insurance fee. While un-packed ticket costs IDR 10.000, which includes entrance fee and accident insurance fee.

Now, if you want to see the beautiful view of the waterfall, you can take wooden-boat for the water transportation or you can go toward by foot while enjoying the natural scenery around you. On the waterfall itself, you will see how wonderful is the scenery there. You can take selfie picture, groufie picture, pre-wedding picture or just look around and enjoy the fresh air and water from the waterfall sprinkle. One thing you need to pay more attention on your steps since the rocks where you step on are very slippery. Besides experiencing new adventure and enjoy the fantastic scenery of the waterfall, you can also try new water sport such as jumping and swimming on the natural river as long as the weather is good and the water is clean. Sometimes, you can’t swim as you want on the rainy days since it has a big risk such as the flood which is very dangerous which can happen suddenly. In addition, if you want to try the water sport you have to use safety equipments include float and helmet.

Instead of the main waterfall, there is another waterfall nearby. But, it is hidden behind the big rock, you need more struggle to go there. For sure, the view is as wonderful as the main one. If on the main waterfall, it is dangerous for you to swim beneath it, on this hidden waterfall it is safer for you to swim or play water under the waterfall, since the waterfall is not too big and the natural pond beneath it is also not too deep.

After finish playing around the waterfall, you can go back to the parking area through the wooden boat or on foot. If you want to try the extreme way, you may swim also from the river near the waterfall until the wodden-boat pier. You don’t need to be worry with your wet body and clothes. As long as you bring your own clothes replacement, there is toilet facility on this tourism object, so you can take a bath and replace your cloth there.

If you are hungry or thirsty, you just need to choose whereever you want to eat. There are so many traditional restaurants which serves some traditional foods and beverages. You can try some original culinaries from Gunungkidul such as gathot-thiwul, fried grasshopper (belalang goreng) or coconut water.
