Gembira Loka Zoo is the only one zoo in Yogyakarta it is also categorized as zoologicum museum (fauna museum). It is one of the oldest tourism object in Yogyakarta after Sono Budoyo Museum which has been legitimated on November 10 1953 by the King of Jogja Sri Sultan HB IX. Its built on a Gadjah Wong River area. The first person who got responsible to manage this zoo was Sri Paduka Paku Alam VIII. While the times running Gembira Loka Zoo is still become the most wanted tourism object in Yogyakarta. This green zoo is located Kebun Raya Street No. 2 Kotagede Yogyakarta or about 6 kilometers from Malioboro area. Since it is located not too far from the central city of Yogyakarta so the access to go there is also quite easy. You can take public transportation such as Trans Jogja by taking number 1B it will drop you near by the zoo. Or you can also take traditional public transportation such as pedicab.
Fauna Collections
In this zoo there are so many scarce animals from some specieses such as amphibian reptile mammals aves and pisces. Penguin and Komodo are two of the most wanted animals in Gembira Loka Zoo. Instead of displaying the living animals. Gembira Loka Zoo also has museum which displays pickled animals. This museum is located at the edge side of the ornamental lake in the Gembira Loka Zoo area. There is also one laboratory which specifically built for fauna and flora research. This laboratory was built in 2007 and it is helpful for the students as their direct teaching and learning media. So instead of having fun we will also got some experience by visiting some museums inside this zoo. Great!

Additional Fun Facility
Besides having so many collection of animals and museums this zoo is decorated by the natural forest and park where a lot of beautiful flower blooms there. During the adventure in this zoo the visitors also may try some new experience such taking a ride on the elephant or camel having fun on lake by riding the duck boat (genjot bebek) and having adventure in the replica of the cave.

The ticketting price is 20.000 IDR for the weekdays (Monday-Friday) and 25.000 IDR during the weekend (Saturday-Sunday). This price of course quite cheap since besides having zoo adventure for seeing the fauna from near by there are also some facilities you can find in this zoo such as toilet cafetaria mosque souvenir shops and the large parking area. There are also some fun facilities such as traditional boat, speedboat, bumper boat, and visitors car which is provided for those who want to go around the zoo without feeling tired. Amazing!
