The Beautiful Parangtritis Beach

General Information
Parangtritis is one of the exotic beaches located in Bantul, Yogyakarta. It is around 28 km from the central city of Yogyakarta. The different of this beach with the beaches in Gunungkidul is the color of it's sands. Parangtritis has black sands while almost all the beaches in Gunungkidul have white sands. It is in one imaginary line with Tugu Jogja, or it becomes the southest-end of the imaginary line. The history said that this beach found by one of the Majapahit Kingdom's escapee, Dipokusumo. During his meditation, he saw the water dripped/ tumaritis (Javaness word) from the coral reef/ parang (Javanese word), thus it's finally called Parangtritis.

There are so many wonderful views that we can find here, for example as the large area of black-sand beach, which is perfectly the beautiful view of the blue ocean. Another natural view that we can find in Parangtritis beach is the existing of sand-knoll (gumuk pasir). The sand-knoll here is coming from the natural phenomenon which has happened a very long time ago. The research found that it is formed by the Merapi Mountain volcano material which brought to the sea by the wind then formed the knoll which the special sketch.

Fun Activities

Andong and Sunset at Parangtritis Beach

There are so many activities that we can do there, but the main activities that we can do there is enjoying the greatest view of the exotic beach while refreshing our mind and taking some great pictures, since there are so many good spots to take picture. While enjoying the beach view, the visitors may also go around using the traditional vehicles, such as andong and dokar or using ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) which available there. We can also play volleyball or run the kite. For the visitors who love the aero-sport, in Parangtritis, there is a paragliding facility. This sport is usually can be done on December-March only, it depends on the weather. This beach provides also the warm-water swimming pool. But, it is allowed only for the children. At the evening, the visitors will be served by the beautiful sunset here.

Another Nearest Spots

At the west side of Parangtritis beach, there is Parangkusumo beach. On the 1st day of the Islamic calendar, we can see the traditional Javanese ritual there. The Javanese people believe that the ritual is conducted in regarded the Queen of the Southest Ocean, Nyi Roro Kidul.It happens once a year only, so it becomes one of the interesting ritual here. In Parangkusumo beach, we can also enjoy the large sand-knoll. While the east side of Parangtritis, there is Parang Endog beach. There is a waterfall here which appears in a rainy season only. It is around 15 meters length and it is very beautiful.

Public Facility

Talking about the public facility, there are so many public facilities available there, such as: public toilets, food corner which served us with so many menus (especially sea food, snacks, traditional food and coconut water drink), some photo spots, homestay, ATV which tarif is around 50.000 IDR - 100.000 IDR per a half hour, and andong or dokar which tarif is 20.000 IDR.

Ticketing price

Regarding the ticketing price, it is quite cheap, since it only costs 3.000 IDR per visitor. For motorcycle entrance, it costs 1.000 IDR per motorcycle and 5.000 IDR for car entrance. In order to ensure the vehicles are safe, there is an additional parking tarif, which are 2.000 IDR for motorcycle and 5.000 IDR for car.
