The tracking towards the Light from Heaven

Gunungkidul is one of the regency in Yogyakarta which is rich of karst hills with the underground rivers. Jomblang cave is the most wanted karst tourism object in Gunungkidul. The typical of this cave is "collapse doline" which means the vertical cave that formed from the geological process which caused the land mired down which formed "sinkhole" or commonly known as well with 50 meters length. Javaness mostly called this natural well as luweng so this cave is also well-known as Luweng Jomblang. The natural process included also with the vegetation process on the cave. Inside this cave there is a natural forest which is different from the usual forest, most of the ecosistems of the forest are moss and bushes. This natural forest commonly called as Ancient Forest since the vegetations which grown here came from the mired land which brought down these vegetations. 

Caving Tracks

Since Jomblang is categorized as the vertical cave which has quite long depth, so we need to be able on Single Rope Technique (SRT) procedure. Besides, we have to use some safety equipments before caving in this Jomblang cave and there must be the experience tour guide (caving crew) who guide us during our adventure. There are four track choices we can take. The first track is VIP track. On this VIP track, we need to do tracking around 15 meters on foot before taking SRT which get through 20 meters length to the cave. For the rest three tracks, the visitors must take SRT track since the beginning which has various track length: 80 meters (A track), 60 meters (B track), and 40 meters (C track). For the beginners, we recommend to take VIP track first.

The Cave Adventure

All of the worries and fear will be disappear as soon as we reach at the cave. It will be replaced by the wonderful and amazing scenery inside the cave which we rarely find in another cave. Before doing caving, we can take a rest first in the natural chamber of Jomblang. After that, we can continue our adventure to trace the long path (around 500 meters length) which is connecting between Jomblang cave with another vertical cave called Grubug cave. You don't need to be affraid since the tracking inside the cave is quite easy, but still you need to be careful since sometimes the track is slippery due to the natural humidity inside the cave. When we reach the end of the path which is the underground of Grubug cave, we can see another bombastic view. There are two big stalagmites at the ground of Grubug cave. If we can reach there at the shiny days at around 1 pm, there will be an exotic view which comes from the sun light which get through the ground of Grubung cave, this beautiful light recently well-known as the Light from Heaven. While at the north side of the big stalagmite, there is a river-line which comes from the Kali Suci cannal. So cool and wonderful for sure!

Location

Jomblang Cave is located in Jetis, Semanu, Gunungkidul. It is around 10 km from the center of Gunungkidul regency or about 15 minutes trip by motorcycle or car. To reach this cave we have to travel through the beautiful village which has wonderful scenery all around. There are some villagers houses fields and another natural views. When we arrive at this cave the real nature will wellcome us with the great view.
