The Religious-Historical Inheritance, Ratu Boko Temple

Beautiful Sun-set view at Ratu Boko Temple

Not only Prambanan Temple which become the most famous religious-historical object in Yogyakarta, but there is also Ratu Boko Temple which is one of the most beautiful religious-historical inheritance. Ratu Boko Temple is located in Bokoharjo, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The location is around 3 kilometers at the south side direction of Prambanan Temple and 18 kilometers from Yogyakarta city.

The History of Ratu Boko Temple

The previous research stated that, long time ago in the 8th century, this area was one of the palace of Wangsa Sailendra (Rangkai Panangkaran) from the Medhang Kingdom. The research statement is proven by the founding of some building from the palace inheritance such as the gate, fortress, moats all around the location, Paseban, Keputren, bathing pool, Pendopo, Pringgitan, meditation cave, and also some  villagers's complex. According to Prasasti Abhayagiri Wihara (792 M), Rangkai Panangkaran firstly built this complex at the top of the hill as vihara (Buddhist monastery) for his religious and meditation activity. Dyani Statue (Arca Dyani) is of the the proof that it was the vihara. At the other hand, in Prasasti Shivagrha, it is stated that this complex was the fortress which was built by Balaputra. While the name of Ratu Boko itself came from the Javanese Legend which belief that this area was the place of Ratu Boko who is the father of Roro Jonggrang. On this Ratu Boko area, there are also some Hindusts' statue such as Arca Durga, Arca Ganesha, and Arca Yoni.

Ratu Boko Temple is very beautiful, before entering the main temple area, we have to go upstairs through the lovely green park. Inside this Ratu Boko Temple area, there are some interesting historical spots which have their own special history and functions. Beside the main gate of the temple, there is one inheritance which called as cremation area. From this gate you can go straight and then turn right, at this area you will find some histocial building such as meditation cave, bathing pool, Keputren and another inherintances. The view from this upside is very interesting and amazing. Besides the great scenery of Ratu Boko temple itself, we can see the villages under the hill so great and beautiful. The exotic sun-rise and sun-set will also look very wonderful from this spot.

Ticketing Price and Public Facilities

Talking about the ticketting price, since it is the same management with Prambanan Temple, so the ticket price is the same also. It is IDR 30.000 for domestic visittors and USD 18 for foreign tourists. The public facilities that you can find here such as parking area, culinary corner/ restaurant, toilet, hall, and mosque. There are some package offered by the management, such as camping, tracking, and archeological research. For couple who want to take picture for their pre-wedding, there will be special package also that is offered specially.
