Embung Batara Sriten, The Above the Sky Lake

Gunungkidul is one of the regency in Yogyakarta which has so many wonderful tourism objects. It is popular with it's karst area which consists of hills, cave, and underground river. Embung Batara Sriten or Embung Sriten is the other exotic of Gunungkidul. It is an artificial lake which is located exactly the the highest top of the hill at the top of Northest Baturagung Mountain. The exact location of this tourism object is in Sumilir Hill, Sriten, Pilangrejo, Nglipar, Gunungkidul.

General Information

Embung Sriten was firstly legitimated by Sri Sultan Hamangku Buwono X on September 2014. Before becoming the tourism object, actually the first purpose of this lake construction was as the source for watering the fruits garden which is not far from the lake location. Recently, there are some fruits trees which are planted at the garden nearby Embung Sriten such as kelengkeng, durian, soursop, and mangosteen. Since, the great view which can be seen from this object, there are so many people come here for vacation. 

Activities

Located at the highest hills in Yogyakarta, Embung Sriten serves us with the great view. When we are at this lake area, it seems like we are standing at the lake above the sky with the clouds around us. From this object, we can also see the wonderful scenery of Rawa Jombor and Gadjah Mungkur Reservoir (Wonogiri, Central Java). At night, you can find the beautiful view which comes from the house-lightings in Klaten and Nglipar area. If you come here in early morning, your will meet the amazing sunrise without any barrier, the great combination of morning fogs and the golden sunrise which really attractive. Not only sunrise at the morning, if you come here at the evening, you will also see the golden sunset from Embung Sriten. Besides enjoying the green scenery of the downhill area, you can also feel the wonderful twilight accompanied by the lovely golden sunset. Camping ground is also available at this object, so for those who want to enjoy the night here, it is also recommended while enjoying the great scenery all around. On this area also, there is Top of Mangir, which often use for aerosport activities, such as paralayang, paramotor, and hang-glider (gantole). In conclusion, some activities that can be done in Embung Sriten consist of: sunset and sunrise seeing, camping, photograph-hunting, and aerosport.

Ticketing and Access

Talking about the ticketing price, it is very cheap, since it costs only IDR 3.000, and the additional parking fee: IDR 2.000 (for motorcycle) and IDR 5.000 (for car). Regarding the route to go to this object is as follows: From Yogyakarta, take the direction to Wonosari Street go ahead until you find Sambipitu T-Junction then turn left to Nglipar direction. Before Nglipar market, there is a T-Junction where the big tree grows there, you just turn left follow Nglipar-Ngawen street. Just go straight until you find Pilangrejo village, then you need to follow the direction plank (Embung Batara Sriten). One important tips that for you if you want to go here is: you are not recommended to use automatic-motorcycle since the route is keep going upwards. So just prepare your motorcycle well and be careful! Finally, don't think twice, come and enjoy your weekend golden sunset in Embung Batara Sriten.
